Life Launch + Alyssa

Alyssa and her team made one day feel extra special for their Life Launch mentee. Watch to see how the little things make a big difference.

Welcome to a day in the life as a Life Launch mentor.

My name is Alyssa and I’ve been on a Life Launch team for about 8 months now.

This weekend was our mentee’s birthday, so we surprised her with a party. Me and the other mentors on the team started by surprising her and taking her to Purple Glaze with some friends.

When she got home, she discovered that we had completed her birthday celebration by decorating and surprising her with her favorite, chocolate cake and ice cream.

She actually told us she doesn’t like her birthday because she’s experienced a lot of disappointment around her birthday in the past.

She actually had never had a birthday party thrown for her before. So after hearing that we knew we had to put something together. So with the help of her foster family and a couple of her friends, we were able to make it a really special day. We even got her flowers and a couple small gifts because she had never been given flowers before.

Being on her team has been such a transformative experience for me because it’s taught me the power of being present. It’s helped me realize that there are so many ways to answer the call of God and care for the youth in our foster care.

Our role in our mentee’s life is to be her friend, her cheerleader, and people she can trust. Whether it’s deep conversation over coffee or simple texts throughout the day, God is using Life Launch to reveal his love to each of us.

Thanks for joining me for a day in my life as a Life Launch mentor.
